Close the Expectation Gap! Expect More From Your Kids

There are so many amazing things that kids are capable of doing! We used to ask a lot of kids in the past, like working in coal mines or helping to provide for their families. While this was to the extreme in the earlier part of last century, there has been a huge shift in the last few decades to the polar opposite. We are asking less and less of our kids and not challenging their character.

Kids CAN behave with respect, responsibility and also be resilient. This is why we should ask more of our kids, not less!

Watch this video to learn the shocking truth about chores from our generation to our kids. You will be surprised on how much less we ask of our kids than was asked of us.

This past spring, I was invited to do a TedX talk at Carnegie Melon where I spoke about “The Expectation Gap”. I would love if you would watch it and share your thoughts, concerns and experiences below. I want to keep the conversation going about the expectation gap and how we can expect more from our kids!
