Don’t Bully Proof Your Kids

If your child was invited to a birthday party but you knew some of the “mean girls” were going to be there, would you let her decide whether or not to go? I recently got a question from a parent who didn’t want to tell her daughter about the invitation.

A coach contacted me because a parent pulled his kid off the team due to a bullying story she’d heard about one of the other players. And the season hadn’t even started yet.

These seem like reasonable choices. No parent wants their child to be bullied. But what is the end game? Should we screen our kids’ college choices to make sure no one there has ever been bullied?
