On the subject of burnout… you all had a lot to tell me! You have some great strategies for helping yourself when you’re feeling that combination of tired, less effective and like what you do doesn’t matter. Because that’s the triad of burnout.
Knowing how to improve sleep, reach out to friends, lean into spirituality or hobbies or relationships are all healthy habits in their own right and they can mitigate the effects of burnout to a degree.
But there is something important to know. You can’t heal while you’re at home from things that are happening to you at work. You can get better, protect your mental and physical health some… but you can’t get well if you’re trying to refill the bucket at home when it’s draining constantly at work. We have to use strategies at work.
There are five documented strategies that heal us from and help prevent burnout. Ready?
· Connecting to purpose
· Seeing progress
· Acquiring mastery
· Growing connection
· Offering or receiving support
We’re going to talk more about these, but before we do… which have you used at work and what have you noticed about the effect on you?
All my best,
Dr. G
